Paydata marks their 20th anniversary by hosting the first in their series of seminars designed to provoke ideas about how companies can drive change through their people.

In the first of a series of seminars, we gathered alongside our guests to hear from the captivating speaker Blaire Palmer, CEO of That People Thing. Blaire is at the forefront of new thinking about leadership and business transformation. She led the first of our ‘Rewarding You’ seminars, intended to explore what trends are driving change within organisations and facilitate lively discussion between our guests and speakers – which our first event certainly achieved.

The industrial age notion of how organisations work is being challenged by new ways of working. However, actually letting go of habits, beliefs, processes and attachments that no longer serve leaders and their organisations is another matter.

Blaire explored the importance of how leadership can truly bring about the step change needed to embrace the future. She highlighted the importance of being responsive and the notion of ‘bug fixing’ – encouraging leaders to fail fast, fail quickly in order to be their own disruptor. By challenging myths around leadership, Blaire tackled outdated notions of what has been done historically to identify how true innovation can be achieved.

Our half-day session enabled our guests to talk through the issues that they currently face and understand the approach of other organisations operating across a variety of sectors. With over two decades of experience inside the boardrooms of international companies, Blaire framed our discussions about the challenges of new approaches to working by introducing alternatives to conventional hierarchy in the workplace.

We explored concepts such as Teal organisations that Frank Laloux writes about in ‘Reinventing Organisations’. Teal businesses are agile, non-hierarchical and self-managing: driven by their purpose. We touched upon using an organisation’s higher purpose as a compass for mapping out change. Our guests were truly challenged to re-think how leaders can disrupt the status quo.

Enjoyed all of it! Really great afternoon and I got something from every bit. I particularly enjoyed hearing from others and I loved Blaire

Allison Long, Executive Director of Organisational Effectiveness & HR, Cross Keys Homes

Open forum session-always useful to hear and share on topical issues. Blaire was really engaging - excellent speaker and thought provoking
