Latest pay and labour market statistics May 2021:

  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 1.5% in the 12 months to April 2021, up from 0.7% growth to March.
  • The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) rose by 1.6% in the 12 months to April 2021, up from 1.0% growth to March.
  • The UK employment rate, in the three months to March 2021, was estimated at 75.2%.
  • The UK unemployment rate, in the three months to March 2021, was estimated at 4.8%.
  • The redundancy rate, in the three months to March 2021, was estimated at 5.5 people per 1,000 employees.
  • There were an estimated 657,000 vacancies in the UK in February to April 2021, its highest level since January to March 2020.
  • Year on year, growth in total pay (including bonuses) increased 4.9%, and growth in regular pay (excluding bonuses) increased 4.1%.
