Latest pay and labour market statistics January 2019:

  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.1 per cent in December 2018, down from 2.3 per cent in November 2018.
  • The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 years who were in work) was estimated at 75.8 per cent, higher than for a year earlier (75.3 per cent) and the highest since comparable estimates began in 1971.
  • Total average earnings increased by 3.2 per cent including bonuses and it also increased by 3.4 per cent excluding bonuses in the 12 months up to November 2018.
