Latest pay and labour market statistics January 2023:

  • The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 9.2% in the 12 months to December 2022, down from 9.3% in November.
  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 10.5% in the 12 months to December 2022, down from 10.7% in November.
  • The UK employment rate was estimated at 75.6% in September to November 2022, largely unchanged compared with the previous three-month period.
  • The unemployment rate for September to November 2022 increased by 0.2 percentage points on the quarter to 3.7%.
  • The number of vacancies in October to December 2022 was 1,161,000, a decrease of 75,000 from July to September 2022.
  • Growth in average total pay (including bonuses) and regular pay (excluding bonuses) among employees was the same at 6.4% in September to November 2022.2.
