Latest pay and labour market statistics April 2022:

  • The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 6.2% in the 12 months to March 2022, up from 5.5% in February.
  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 7.0% in the 12 months to March 2022, up from 6.2% in February.
  • The UK employment rate was largely unchanged on the quarter at 75.5%, but still below pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
  • The unemployment rate for December 2021 to February 2022 decreased by 0.2 percentage points on the quarter to 3.8%.
  • The number of job vacancies in January to March 2022 rose to a new record of 1,288,000. However, the rate of growth in vacancies continued to slow down.
  • Growth in average total pay (including bonuses) was 5.4% and growth in regular pay (excluding bonuses) was 4.0% in December 2021 to February 2022.
