Latest pay and labour market statistics September 2022:

  • The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) rose by 8.6% in the 12 months to August 2022, down from 8.8% in July.
  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 9.9% in the 12 months to August 2022, down from 10.1% in July.
  • The UK employment rate for May to July 2022 for people aged 16 to 64 years decreased by 0.2 percentage points on the quarter to 75.4% and is still below pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic levels.
  • The unemployment rate for May to July 2022 decreased by 0.2 percentage points on the quarter to 3.6%, the lowest rate since May to July 1974.
  • The number of job vacancies in June to August 2022 was 1,266,000, a decrease of 34,000 from the previous quarter.
  • Growth in employees' average total pay (including bonuses) was 5.5% and growth in regular pay (excluding bonuses) was 5.2% in May to July 2022.
