According to data from the Office for National Statistics, CPI stood at 2.7 per cent for the year to September 2013, unchanged from last month.
For the last five years, the three main sectors contributing to the inflation rate have been food & non-alcoholic beverages; housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels; and transport (including motor fuels). These three sectors together have, on average, accounted for over half of the 12-month inflation rate each month.
The largest upward contribution to the CPI came from air fares, whilst downward contributions came from petrol and diesel prices.
CPIH up 2.5 per cent, unchanged from August; and
RPIJ up 2.5 per cent, down from 2.6 per cent in August.
