Paydata is a UK-based reward management consultancy. We provide HR professionals with information, insights, tools and statistics to help them manage their pay and reward practices. We’re also a leading source of UK salary data and reward expertise.
Formed in 1995, we’ve grown substantially but are still an independent company. Paydata supports customers in a range of industries – from call centres to construction and travel to telecoms.
Many of the companies we work with are FTSE 250 or equivalent. All of them appreciate how people contribute to their success and how reward strategy impacts upon employee retention and morale.
Almost all of our work comes from referrals or repeat business; customer feedback tells us that it is down to the combination of expertise, personal service and value for money that we offer. Feel free to browse our vision and values and our case studies to discover more about us and what people think about the services we provide.
“My HR career started out as a ‘talent spotter’ at Thorn EMI – working in job evaluation rather than signing new acts though! I then moved on to become Head of Reward at Thomas Cook, and spent 10 years there as the company’s global reward specialist.
“Paydata started out as a spare room business, but we knew it would grow because there’s always a need for good reward management consultancy. For me, our job is about creating long-term relationships and making sure our customers get what they need to support their business decisions.”
“My reward management career started in the financial planning department at Going Places, creating management reports for the head office and national shop network. The job involved designing and coding reports, collating the data and distributing information to help colleagues compare performance by time period or business area.
“Since becoming Paydata’s first employee in 1999, I have developed and managed several products. These include opinion surveys, equal pay audits and the salary surveys that are still a core part of our business today. I also created systems to run the surveys and conduct more complex analyses in line with company growth.
“Our team crosses the divide between people and analytical skills. We’ve got the technical strengths to analyse high-volume data and complex problems, the gravitas to understand HR strategy and the communication skills to present things in a clear and simple way.”
“My background is human resources through and through, having moved into what was then known as Personnel more than 30 years ago.
"From a basic HR grounding at Babcock International, I progressed to Thomas Cook, working in operational HR and policy development, before being appointed HR Director for the group’s UK distribution businesses. As a member of the senior management team I made sure the people policies, and in particular the approach to pay and rewards, helped thousands of employees to achieve business objectives.
“My work at Paydata involves supporting customers on topics such as executive reward benchmarking, job evaluation and pay modelling. I also provide employee listening services, such as focus groups and surveys. My experience of working on the customer’s side of the desk is important. It means I understand the HR issues that people face and I am better placed to offer a practical solution.”
"A seasoned HR professional, Matthew joined Paydata in 2016 as a Reward Consultant. Starting out work in the pension’s arena, Matthew has developed his skillset through a number of roles, most notably as Compensation and Benefits Analyst for Caterpillar Inc., where he was responsible for job evaluations for the entire EAME region. He also led the annual salary structure and merit review process, conducting detailed analysis before liaising with business leaders across the region.
"At Paydata, Matthew works mainly on reward consulting, particularly in the area of job evaluation. Having worked on the 'other side of the desk' and with his personable style, he is able to work closely with customers to bring a fresh perspective to the projects he works on."
"My career in HR started out in the financial services sector, working for BNP Paribas, managing a number of operational HR improvement projects. However, my reward career really took off at Jersey Telecom in the Channel Islands, where my reward management skills built up over a period of 10 years. I helped transform the company from an underperforming government department into a high-performing commercial organisation; aligning reward initiatives to the organisations goals.
"At Paydata, my focus is on reward consulting, particularly the area of job evaluation. Having worked both sides of the desk, in both a HR/Reward and consulting capacity, enables me to more easily understand the issues that customers face and identify the best solution to their problem."
