Latest pay and labour market statistics December 2017:

  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 3.1 per cent in November 2017, up from 3.0 per cent in October 2017; it was last higher in March 2012,
  • The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 who were in work) was 75.1 per cent, lower than for May to July 2017 (75.3 per cent) but higher than for a year earlier (74.4 per cent);
  • Total average earnings year on year increased by 2.3 per cent including bonuses and by 2.4 per cent excluding bonuses, in October 2017; and,
  • The National Minimum Wage rate is set to increase in April 2018 by:
    • People aged 25 and older - £7.50 to £7.83
    • People aged 21 to 24 - £7.05 to £5.90
    • People aged 18 to 20 - £5.60 to £5.90
    • People aged under 18 - £4.05 to £4.20
    • Apprentices - £3.50 to £3.70
