Latest pay and labour market statistics April 2018:

  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.5 per cent in March 2018, down from 2.7 per cent in February 2018;
  • The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 years who were in work) was 75.4 per cent, higher than for a year earlier (74.6 per cent) and the highest since comparable records began in 1971;
  • Total average earnings increased by 2.9 per cent including bonuses and increased by 2.3 per cent excluding bonuses in the 12 months up to November 2017; and,
  • The National Minimum Wage rate increased this April by:
    • People aged 25 and older - £7.50 to £7.83
    • People aged 21 to 24 - £7.05 to £7.38
    • People aged 18 to 20 - £5.60 to £5.90
    • People aged under 18 - £4.05 to £4.29
    • Apprentices - £3.50 to £3.70
