Andrew Hajduk UK Business News, 18 January 2012 Labour market statistics for September to November 2011: The employment rate for those aged from 16 to 64 was 70.3 per cent. This is down 0.1 per cent on the quarter. There were 29.12 million people in employment aged 16 and over. This is up 18,000 on the quarter. The unemployment rate was 8.4 per cent of the economically active population. This is up 0.3 per cent on the quarter. The number of unemployed people rose by 118,000 on the quarter to reach 2.68 million. The unemployment rate has not been higher since 1995 and the number of unemployed people has not been higher since 1994. The inactivity rate for those aged 16 to 64 was 23.1 per cent. This is down 0.2 per cent on the quarter. The number of economically inactive people was down 61,000 on the quarter reaching 9.29 million. Total pay (including bonuses) rose by 1.9 per cent on a year earlier. This is down 0.2 per cent on the three month to October 2011. Both the private and public sector showed lower pay growth. Regular pay (excluding bonuses) rose by 1.9 per cent on a year earlier.
